Victim identified in weekend shooting in Minneapolis

The victim who died from a shooting early Saturday morning has been identified as 33-year-old Deandre Intonio Smith, of Minneapolis.

According to the Hennepin Medical Examiner, Smith died due to multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death is a homicide.

3 dead in separate shootings early Saturday morning in Minneapolis

On Saturday, Minneapolis police said around 2 a.m., officers responded to a shooting near Hennepin Avenue and South Fifth Street. A Metro Transit police officer came across an altercation in the area and saw a man shoot another man.

The Metro Transit officer then shot the suspect in the leg, police said.

According to Metro Transit police, Smith, who was shot, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect was treated at the hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was released into police custody.

The suspect in that shooting is being held at the Hennepin County Jail pending criminal charges.
