St. Paul man convicted of illegal gun possession

A federal jury has found a St. Paul man guilty of illegal gun possession.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 30-year-old Darnell Andre Dunn was convicted Monday of one count of felon in possession of firearm – armed career criminal.

Prosecutors said Dunn was involved in a drive-by shooting in St. Paul on Aug. 30, 2019. Police pulled over the car in which Dunn and two others were riding just minutes later but let them go after receiving incorrect information about the suspect’s vehicle.

According to the attorney’s office, officers found Dunn the next day at a gas station and a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson was found in the vehicle he was in.

Because of prior felony convictions, Dunn is barred from having firearms or ammunition.

The attorney’s office said Dunn faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, up to life in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release.
