St. Paul woman who developed iconic packaging for 3M’s Scotch Video Cassette dies

A pioneer at the 3M Corporation has died.

Kate Schultz of St. Paul developed the iconic packaging for the Scotch Video Cassette in the 1980s.

Schultz, who was a marketing manager and won several awards, died last week at the age of 77.

"She was absolutely a fantanstic person," Schultz son, Will Schultz said. "Her crowning achievement was developing that packaging for these wonderful Scotch tape video cassettes that all Minnesotans know and love so well. She was one of the only females at that time to really get those high achievements."

Schultz spent nearly three decades at 3M before retiring in the early 1990s.
