MDH: Flu season continues to be significantly milder than years past; first death reported

The flu season in Minnesota continues to have significantly less cases and hospitalizations than in years past.
According to the weekly influenza report from the Minnesota Department of Health, two additional people were hospitalized this week due to the flu which brings the total during this flu season to 21 hospitalizations. During the same week in 2019-2020, MDH reported over 250 flu related hospitalizations.
The first flu death of the season was reported this week. The age of the victim was not released, however the death is not being reported as a juvenile death. During the 2019-2020 flu season, 153 Minnesotans died of the virus.
Additionally, no further school or long-term-care outbreaks were identified by MDH.
