MDH reports 13 new COVID-related deaths, 1,335 new cases

Tuesday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported 13 new deaths from COVID-19 and 1,335 newly reported positive COVID-19 tests.

MDH said in a briefing on Monday, there was a delay in a file being uploaded to the MDH dashboard, meaning about 9,000 test results with 558 positive cases didn’t make it into Monday’s upload. Those numbers represented both new and repeat COVID-19 cases. MDH said that data is included in Tuesday’s data.

Meanwhile, as of Tuesday, there have been a total of 152,849 COVID-19 vaccinations administered in Minnesota, with 113,114 receiving the Pfizer vaccine and 39,678 receiving the Moderna vaccine, according to MDH. Fifty-seven vaccinations are considered "unknown/missing" in the data.

Of the 1,335 newly reported cases, 90 of them are noted as probable cases, according to MDH. A total of 16,921 probable cases have been reported since antigen testing began in September.

So far, 5,724 people have died from the coronavirus in Minnesota. Of those deaths, 203 are listed as probable COVID-19 deaths. Of the total deaths reported as of Tuesday, five were in long-term care facilities.

To date, 22,931 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized in Minnesota and 4,811 patients have been in the ICU.

According to MDH, the new positive COVID-19 cases in Minnesota reported on Tuesday moved the state’s total to 438,867 since pandemic record-keeping began.

A total of 418,610 patients have recovered or are recovering and no longer need isolation, according to MDH.

As of Tuesday, more than 5.95 million COVID-19 tests have been completed in Minnesota.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 91.0 million people worldwide and killed over 1.94 million people.

About 50.4 million people worldwide have recovered as of Tuesday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report a loss of smell and/or taste and having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
