A man was fatally shot and a woman was found seriously hurt nearby in Minneapolis after a weekend during which at least 10 people were hurt in shootings.
According to Minneapolis police, officers responded to the area of Elliot and Franklin avenues at about 1:21 a.m. Monday on a report of shots fired in the area.
Upon arrival, officers found a man west of the intersection who appeared to have been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman who was seriously hurt was also found south of the intersection. She did not appear to have been shot and police said information on the extent of her injuries was unknown as of early Monday. She was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that two vehicles were possibly traveling westbound on Franklin Avenue when one of the vehicles hit the female pedestrian east of Elliot Avenue. The vehicles continued west of Elliot, one pulled a U-turn in the middle of the road, and a person reportedly shot the male pedestrian, according to police.
The suspect vehicle then drove south on Elliot and out of the area.
Police said they don’t know how, or if, the man and woman found at the intersection knew each other. Police said they also don’t know if they’re looking for one or both vehicles involved in the incident.
Minneapolis Police Department Crime Lab personnel responded to the scene to collect evidence and homicide detectives are investigating. Investigators are looking for surveillance video in the area to better understand what happened.
The medical examiner is expected to release the man’s identity, as well as the official cause of death, in the days to come, the Minneapolis Police Department stated.

The incident marks the 27th homicide in Minneapolis this year.
Meanwhile, police said they are working to get a total number of shootings from this past weekend but stated preliminary information indicated at least six people were shot Saturday and four were shot Sunday.
