A man accused of firing at officers in Minnesota has been arrested in Utah.

James Klein was arrested Wednesday after he was pulled over.

According to ABC affiliate KTVX-TV, police said that during the traffic stop, Klein managed to steal the deputies’ SUV.

The sheriff’s office reports Klein crashed a few miles away where he got out with a deputy’s rifle and began shooting at troopers. Troopers fired back and said Klein injured a bystander.

Klein managed to escape but was arrested a short time later trying to swim across a river. In his car, authorities found nine pounds of meth and a handgun, according to the sheriff’s office.

Klein was charged last year for shooting at police at a Brooklyn Park Walmart in March.

Police said they approached him when responding to a report of a shoplifter.

They said he ignored commands and when an officer tried to use a Taser on him, he fired on officers. Officers shot back and hit him in the leg and hand.

Klein is still facing charges in Minnesota of assault with use of deadly force against a peace officer, aggravated robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.
