1 dead, 2 injured in shooting, crash in north Minneapolis

Police say one person is dead and two are injured after a shooting and crash Friday night in north Minneapolis.

According to Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder, at 8:40 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of 26th Avenue North and Logan Avenue North. While en route to the area, officers were dispatched to a personal injury car crash in the same area.

Elder said when officers arrived at the crash scene, they found the occupant of one of the cars, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The victim had no pulse and wasn’t breathing. Officers performed CPR, and paramedics later showed up to take him to North Memorial Health Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A second gunshot victim was self-transported to the hospital. Elder said he is expected to survive.

A woman who was in one of the vehicles involved in the crash was able to get herself out of the vehicle before suffering a "medical incident." The woman was later taken to the hospital and is also expected to survive. Her injuries were not related to the shooting.

This marks the 29th homicide of the year in Minneapolis.

"Fact of the matter is these are real people, these are real victims. These aren’t just numbers," Elder said. "We have to stop the gun violence in Minneapolis."
