Suspected shooter killed in downtown Minneapolis gunfire exchange identified

A man who was killed in a shooting that left two people dead and eight people wounded early Saturday morning outside Monarch Nightclub in downtown Minneapolis has been identified.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said Monday that 24-year-old Christopher Robert Jones Jr., from Brooklyn Park, died due to multiple gunshot wounds at about 1:59 a.m. He is believed to be the other shooter involved.
Another victim confirmed by the medical examiner on Monday is 21-year-old Charlie Bernard Johnson, from Golden Valley. He died from a gunshot wound to his chest. Johnson was a recent graduate of the University of St. Thomas School of Engineering. The university said this weekend that Johnson was recognized at all three commencement ceremonies on Saturday and a family member accepted his diploma on his behalf.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, at 1:59 a.m., officers working bar close in downtown heard sounds of gunshots in the area of the 300 block of North First Avenue. Police said officers ran to the gunfire and encountered an "exceptionally chaotic scene." Authorities found several victims lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. Officers then found two deceased adults, later identified as Johnson and Jones Jr.

Of the 10 victims shot, preliminary information shows all are adults. Of the eight people who were injured, three were men and five were women. One remains in critical condition, and the other seven suffered injuries that aren’t considered to be life-threatening.
Police say there were two gunmen involved in the incident, where one was killed and the other was arrested. The suspect arrested, 24-year-old Jawan Contrail Carroll, was taken into custody early Saturday afternoon in Bloomington.
Monarch said its club will be closed until Friday.
The investigation is still active, with charges expected to be filed against Carroll in the coming days.
