Two children—one in critical condition—were hurt after an incident early Wednesday morning.

According to the city’s public safety division, police responded to Lake View Alcove just south of Hudson Road at about 12:46 a.m. after receiving a 911 call that a child was being chased by an adult.

Officials said the child was believed to be about 6 years old, and the 911 caller reported the adult chasing the child was a parent.

Upon arrival, officers located the child who had "minor to moderate injuries," according to the city’s public safety division.

Officers also found a second child lying in the street, unresponsive. The second child was believed to be between 4 and 6 years old and was seriously hurt, according to officers.

A 32-year-old female adult was found in the area and was taken into custody. She is expected to be charged on Thursday.

Neighbor Muna Abdi told KSTP’s Ashley Zilka she heard screams which was when she saw the older boy and took him to safety.

"I saw the kid running this way and I met him over here and I saw the mother chasing him and I tried to block her and talk to her and calm her," Abdi said. "That is the time I grabbed the boy and I run away with him."

Abdi also said, "I wasn’t able to see the other child but I know that his sibling was laying down and that’s the one who was in critical condition."

The two children were transported to Regions Hospital. The first child has moderate injuries and the second is in critical condition, officers reported.

Police stated there are no other suspects being sought and that witness interviews are underway.

The incident remains under investigation.
