No. 1 Benilde-St. Margaret’s boys lacrosse rout Eagan

The No. 1 Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights boys lacrosse team defeated the Eagan Wildcats 15-2 on Thursday evening, at Eagan High School.

The Red Knights kicked off the scoring when senior Matthew Dowden scored to make it 1-0 with 6:19 left in the first quarter. Later in the first, the Red Knights struck again when freshman Sky Rold scored to make it 2-0 with 2:26 left in the quarter.

The Wildcats would fight back in the second when senior Zach Jacobson scored twice within three minutes to make it 2-2 with 5:39 left in the half. But, the Red Knights answered back when senior Paddy Burns scored to make it 3-2 with just 90 seconds left in the second quarter.

Then, Benilde-St. Margaret’s completed dominated the second half. The Red Knights scored seven third-quarter goals. Junior Cam Gelling started off the scoring just over one minute into the second half. Just about one minute later, sophomore Carsen Brandt added another goal to make it 5-2 Benilde-St. Margaret’s with 9:40 remaining in the quarter. Then, sophomore Brad Little scored to make it 6-2. Brandt added another goal just over a minute later, making it 7-2. 47 seconds later, Burns scored his second goal of the game to make it 8-2 Red Knights. Brandt then added his third goal of the third quarter to make it 9-2 Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Finally, senior Jonny Schieffert scored to make it 10-2 with 1:40 left in the third quarter.

The Red Knights would add five additional goals in the fourth quarter to make it a 15-2 final. Benilde-St. Margaret’s finished the season with an 11-1 record.
