Ramsey County: 8,700 clients may have had data accessed in security incident

Ramsey County said Friday that as many as 8,700 clients may have had their data accessed during a security incident involving one of their technology services vendors.

According to the county, Netgain Technology, LLC, said on Dec. 2 that it had experienced a security incident by a malicious outside hacker seeking to extort payment from the company. The county said it suspended all use of Netgain’s application, moved to manual backup procedures and performed a technical analysis of possible exposure of data after learning about the incident.

The county said it doesn’t have any indication that the hackers had interest in client data beyond the extortion scheme but as many as 8,700 clients of the county’s Family Health Division may have had their data accessed. Ramsey County said it notified all clients possibly affected.

Anyone with questions about the incident can contact the county at 651-266-2275.
