MDH: 3,570 new COVID-19 cases, 22 new deaths in latest report
Tuesday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported 22 new deaths from COVID-19, as well as 3,570 newly reported positive COVID-19 tests.
Of the 3,570 newly reported cases, 261 of them are noted as probable cases, according to MDH. A total of 6,924 probable cases have been reported since antigen testing began in September.
So far, 3,615 people have died of the coronavirus in Minnesota. Seventy-two of those deaths are also listed as probable COVID-19 deaths. Of the total deaths reported as of Tuesday, 2,430 were in long-term care facilities.
To date, 17,111 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized in Minnesota and 3,826 patients have been in the ICU.
In a new update, Tuesday, HealthPartners provided data on its system hospitalizations. According to the health care system, as of Tuesday morning, there were 214 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 and 23 patients were admitted to system hospitals for COVID-19 on Monday.
Meanwhile, HealthPartners reports 88% of its medical/surgical hospital beds are occupied while 95% of its intensive care unit beds are occupied.
Additionally, HealthPartners reported the system’s test positivity rate last week ranged from 13% to more than 18%, "showing widespread community transmission."
Back at the state level, according to MDH, the new positive COVID-19 cases in Minnesota reported on Tuesday moved the state’s total to 322,312 since pandemic record-keeping began.
A total of 279,540 patients have recovered, or are recovering, and no longer need isolation, according to MDH.
As of Tuesday, more than 4.28 million COVID-19 tests have been completed in Minnesota.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 63.3 million people worldwide and killed over 1.4 million people.
About 40.7 million people worldwide have recovered as of Tuesday.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report a loss of smell and/or taste and having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
Note: According to MDH – "Because all data are preliminary, the change in number of cumulative positive cases and deaths from one day to the next may not equal the newly reported cases or deaths."
