Northwestern College sophomore Owen Boerema struck out Crown College’s Seth Betts to end the game, as the Eagles claim their first UMAC championship in 25 years with a 3-1 win in 11 innings on Tuesday afternoon.
St. Scholastica in Duluth had previously won the UMAC championship or a share of a conference title for the past 25 years.
Boerema had a game that pitchers dream about. He had 15 strikeouts in 11 innings, giving up no earned runs getting the victory.

That’s when Boerema came out for the 11th inning to seal the deal for the school’s first UMAC championship since 1996.
