St. Paul man sentenced to 49 years in jail for murder of woman, baby

A St. Paul man was sentenced Friday to nearly five decades in jail for the deaths of his baby and the child’s mother.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said 27-year-old Zachary Robinson was sentenced to 49 years (590 months) in total for fatally shooting 27-year-old Leneesha Columbus on July 5.

Columbus was pregnant at the time with a 26-week-old child, determined to be Robinson’s child. The baby died Aug. 6 as a result of premature birth.

Robinson also pleaded guilty to a second-degree assault charge for an unrelated shooting outside Augie’s in downtown Minneapolis on Dec. 7, 2019.

He’s expected to be sentenced to 51 months in jail for that case on Dec. 18, but the sentence will be served concurrently.
