Pfizer seeks full FDA approval for COVID-19 vaccine

Pfizer is seeking full Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its COVID-19 vaccine.

Currently, it’s available only under emergency use authorization from the agency.

Health experts say this is a significant step forward, showing that Pfizer believes the vaccine has enough effectiveness and safety data to meet the stringent, gold standard requirements for full approval.

The FDA will take several months to review the full set of data before granting full approval.

Since emergency approval was issued in December, Pfizer and its partner BioNTech have delivered more than 170 million doses across the United States.
