Wild’s Matt Dumba named Masterton Trophy nominee

Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba has been named the team’s nominee for the NHL’s Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.

The trophy is given each year to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Masterton, who played for the Minnesota North Stars, died on Jan. 15, 1968, as a result of head injuries suffered during a game.

Dumba hosted his inaugural Hockey Without Limits camp on Feb. 27 to bring more diversity and inclusion to the sport. More than 100 kids participated in the camp.

This season, Dumba has tallied 21 points (6-15=21) in 49 games.

Dumba was last season’s King Clancy Memorial Trophy recipient for his time and financial contributions and efforts toward several community initiatives.

The Masterton Trophy winner is selected in a poll among the 31 chapters of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA).

Harding was named the 2013 recipient of the Masterton Trophy on June 14, 2013, to become the first player in Wild history to win a voted-on NHL Award. Dubnyk also received the Masterton Trophy on June 24, 2015.
