Officer in stable condition after being shot in Brooklyn Park Friday night

A police officer was shot in Brooklyn Park Friday night after responding to a domestic disturbance report.

According to the Brooklyn Park Police Department, at 10:03 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 6500 block of Georgia Avenue North on a domestic disturbance report involving a male who had an order for protection against him.

Officers initiated contact with the suspect who was parked at the caller’s home. The suspect and the two officers exchanged gunfire, said police.

One officer was shot during the exchange and the suspect fled the scene on foot but was apprehended after an extensive law enforcement search.

The suspect was found to have sustained a gunshot wound that is considered to be not life-threatening. The officer who was shot was treated at North Memorial Hospital for a gunshot wound considered to be not life-threatening, said police.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has taken over the investigation and will be the point of contact moving forward.
