A western Wisconsin church is in need of help after receiving an unexpected bill.

Back in May, Servant of the Shepherd Church in River Falls bought two nearby homes as a sober house.

Church leaders believed the property was tax-exempt but recently discovered the exempt status doesn’t start until 2021, leaving the church on the hook for 2020 taxes.

The church owes $7,000 and has until the end of January to pay off.

"At first it was like, ‘Where in the world are we going to get this from by the 31st?’ And then, the next very next thing is God kind of called me back to, ‘Hey, just pray for the willingness be willing to let it go and he’s going to take care of it somehow,’" Pastor Frank Lukasiewicz said.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the church to help pay off the bill.
