Brooklyn Park police: 2 arrested in connection with recent carjackings
Early Monday, Brooklyn Park police reported two people were arrested in connection with recent carjackings.
Police said they were pursuing a vehicle, suspected of being stolen in Minneapolis, at about 3 a.m. when the driver got out in the area of Pearson Parkway and 83rd Avenue and ran from police.
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter assisted in searching for the driver, who was later found hiding in a trash can in the area and was arrested.
Meanwhile, as police were searching for that driver, officers found a second suspicious vehicle in the area.
Officers learned that vehicle had also been stolen and attempted to stop the driver, however, the driver drove from the scene at a high rate of speed, according to police.
The state patrol’s helicopter was able to track the driver, who crashed the stolen vehicle in Brookdale Park. He was arrested, with the assistance of Hennepin County Sheriff’s deputies and Brooklyn Center officers, police stated.
