Some Twin Cities businesses boarding up windows before Election Day

Across the Twin Cities, some businesses boarded up because they are worried about possible unrest after Election Day.

Several stores on Nicollet Mall used plywood to cover windows.

For the third time this year, wood is covering the windows at John Fluevog Shoes in Uptown Minneapolis.

The business suffered some damage during riots after George Floyd’s death.

Fearing election unrest, US businesses get ready

Store manager Jamie Liestman said she wants to be proactive instead of reactive.

"We are still open, we just want to be safe," Liestman said. "I don’t want to have to watch my security camera like a crazy person all night worried about it. So this actually feels good to have this up here, so we don’t have to worry."

Some stores on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis and on Grand Avenue in St. Paul also boarded up their windows.

Minneapolis and St. Paul police said they will have extra staff on Election Day.

The Minnesota National Guard said they are on standby if needed.
