Mobile home destroyed after hay bales catch fire in Douglas County
A mobile home was destroyed Sunday afternoon following a fire in rural Kensington.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said a man reported a fire at his farm off Dairy Drive Southwest at about 2 p.m. The man told the sheriff’s office that hay bales were on fire and the flames were spreading to bags of corn.
Strong winds continued to spread the fire to the north, igniting other hay bales, grass and a mobile home, the sheriff’s office said.
Firefighters from Hoffman and Kensington responded and requested help from crews in Brandon, Evansville and Garfield to put the flames out.
The mobile home was a complete loss, and a vehicle and skid steer also sustained water and fire damage, according to authorities.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating but it’s believed that wind reignited a previous fire in a burn area, the sheriff’s office said.
The Red Cross is assisting the occupants of the mobile home.
No injuries were reported.
