Border Protection officers seize $41K in counterfeit cellphone accessories in Minneapolis
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Minneapolis uncovered counterfeit cellphone accessories worth more than $41,500 during the inspection of a recent shipment in Minneapolis.
According to CBP, officers held a shipment on Nov. 5 and inspected it to determine the admissibility of its contents. After opening it, officers found merchandise labeled as Samsung and iPhone phone cases and adapters.
Inconsistencies, poor quality and incorrect packaging led officers to send the shipment to an import specialist, who determined the items were counterfeit.
CBP said, in fiscal year 2019, it and Homeland Security have seized more than 27,000 shipments containing violations with a suggested retail price of over $1.5 billion.
