USPS to open temporary post office in south Minneapolis
The United States Postal Service (USPS) is set to open a full-service facility in south Minneapolis.
USPS said the facility, located at 10 West Lake Street, Suite 102, will be the temporary home for the Minnehaha and Lake Street post offices. It will open on Monday.
The news comes after the Minnehaha and Lake Street facilities were damaged and closed in the unrest that followed George Floyd’s death.
USPS said all PO Boxes that originate from the Minnehaha and Lake Street locations will be at the new facility, and customers can see a window clerk with a photo ID to claim their keys. Any mail from those locations will also be transferred to the new facility.
The Postal Service said it’s still exploring more permanent options for long-term facilities at its previous sites.
