Police investigating fatal shooting near Capitol in St. Paul

The St. Paul Police Department is looking for the person responsible for a shooting Saturday night that left a man dead in the city’s Frogtown neighborhood.

According to police, at around 8 p.m., a 911 caller reported hearing gunfire near the intersection of Rice Street and Sherburne Avenue. Officers quickly arrived and located a victim lying in the street suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers rendered aid until the St. Paul fire medics arrived and transported the victim to Regions Hospital. According to police, the victim was pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital.

At this time, the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation and no arrests have been made.

Homicide investigators will be canvassing the area for possible witnesses. Members of the department’s Forensic Services Unit will process the scene for any evidence and the Video Management Unit will be working to collect any surveillance video of what happened before, during and after the shooting.

The Ramsey County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine the exact cause of death.
