2 teens arrested after their vehicle hits 2 officers, police vehicle in St. Paul

Two teenagers have been taken into custody after a police pursuit in St. Paul Sunday.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, at about 5:36 p.m. Sunday, officers were monitoring the parking lot of a building along the 400 block of Maryland Avenue when they saw an occupied vehicle in the lot.

Officers learned a 17-year-old male passenger in the vehicle was a suspect in a shooting that took place in October.

Officers attempted to take the teen into custody, however, the driver of the vehicle drove away, hitting two of the officers— one in the foot, the other in the side— and a police vehicle in the process. Both officers are OK, according to the St. Paul Police Department.

The suspect vehicle was pursued and later crashed into an unoccupied vehicle near the intersection of Smith Avenue South and Page Street. Those in the suspect vehicle left the scene on foot and officers found a loaded firearm in the suspect vehicle.

Two male teens were arrested nearby.

The 16-year-old driver of the suspect vehicle was arrested on the following charges, according to the department: Felony-level assaulting a peace officer, felony-level fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, felony-level being an ineligible person in possession of a firearm, felony-level being an ineligible person in possession of ammunition, felony-level possession of a stolen firearm, misdemeanor-level fleeing an officer on foot, and misdemeanor-level leaving the scene of an accident.

The 17-year-old passenger was arrested on the following charges, according to the department: Felony-level being an ineligible person in possession of a firearm, felony-level being an ineligible person in possession of ammunition, felony-level possession of a stolen firearm, and felony-level aggravated assault.

The incident remains under investigation.
