Timberwolves select Anthony Edwards with top pick in NBA Draft

With the top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected University of Georgia shooting guard Anthony Edwards.

Edwards marks the second player in franchise history drafted by the Timberwolves first overall, joining Karl-Anthony Towns in 2015.

"We look forward to welcoming Anthony to the Timberwolves family as this year’s number one draft selection,” said President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas in a press release. “We are excited to add this young talent to our roster and continue his development to make him the best player he can be as he joins All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns and All-Star guard D’Angelo Russell here in Minneapolis.”

He became the 11th straight one-and-done player to be the No. 1 pick, coming in a year where there was no clear obvious choice. He averaged 19.1 points for the Bulldogs, tops among all freshmen.

Wednesday is expected to be a busy night for the Timberwolves, who also owned picks Nos. 17 and 33 heading into the night and were expected to be looking for possible trade partners.
