Walz, commissioners to unveil new technology in effort to fight COVID-19 spread
Monday, Gov. Tim Walz plans to announce new technology to help fight COVID-19.
The official announcement comes as the state unveiled a new app, COVIDaware MN, which uses Bluetooth Low Energy technology to notify Minnesotans if they’ve been exposed to COVID-19.

For the official announcement, Walz will be joined by Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) Commissioner Tarek Tomes and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Infectious Disease Director Kris Ehresmann.
The governor’s office reports the new technology will help slow the spread of the virus. It’s not yet clear what that technology is.
The announcement is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
