It will be a hot start to the weekend in the metro: There is a chance temperatures will be in the 90s both Friday and Saturday.

KSTP Chief Morning Meteorologist Ken Barlow said Friday is expected to be sunny with temperatures quickly rising in the afternoon from the 80s to 90s.

Barlow said Saturday is also expected to be sunny with temperatures in the 90s.

An air quality alert has been issued for the majority of the state through Sunday, according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. The agency reports the alert is in response to wildfire smoke moving through the state from Canada.

The MPCA advises those affected by unhealthy air quality to limit, change or postpone physical activities outside, avoid areas of increased pollution, and for those with asthma or other breathing conditions to make sure they have the proper medications at hand.
