It will be a hot start to the weekend in the metro: There is a chance temperatures will be in the 90s both Friday and Saturday.

Barlow said Saturday is also expected to be sunny with temperatures in the 90s.
An air quality alert has been issued for the majority of the state through Sunday, according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. The agency reports the alert is in response to wildfire smoke moving through the state from Canada.
AIR QUALITY ALERT issued for the southern half of Minnesota effective Friday 8/17 beginning at 8 p.m. through Sunday 8/19 12 p.m. This is in addition to the air quality alert already in effect for the northern half of the state.
