A winter storm watch alert states heavy snow is possible starting Friday afternoon and continuing into Saturday morning along, and southwest of, Interstate 94. Barlow said the heaviest snow is likely to fall south and west of the metro area.

The counties affected by the watch include: Carver, Dakota, Goodhue, Hennepin, Le Sueur, McLeod, Meeker, Rice, Scott, Stearns, Steele and Wright.

Looking ahead, Barlow said the threat of snow is expected to lessen significantly by midday Saturday.
