How MnDOT Gets Ready for Winter

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is prepared for an early snow season. 

In May, salt sheds were filled to the brim and new snowplow vehicles were purchased.

MnDOT has more than 840 snowplows that are equipped to clear state highways and interstates in Minnesota. 

According to MnDOT there are currently more than 1,700 full-time and part-time snowplow drivers, who have received extensive training.

MnDOT officials ask that drivers shift to using their winter driving skills to avoid potential accidents and practice road safety. 

Linda Goodvin from Maple Shade said she is not ready for an early snow season.

“Here it is,” Goodvin said. “I was not expecting this and it is a sure sign of winter.”
