After a hot day Friday, the mercury is only expected to rise moving into the weekend.
Temperatures Saturday are expected to reach the 90s.
Because of the warm weather, the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, Carver, Scott and Dakota counties. The warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday.
A heat advisory has also been issued for a number of Minnesota counties. Those counties include Sherburne, Wright, McLeod, Sibley, Brown, Nicollet, Le Sueur, Rice, Goodhue, Watonwan, Blue Earth, Waseca, Steele, Martin, Faribault, Freeborn and Pierce counties.
KSTP Meteorologist Sam Ryan said showers and thunderstorms made its way across the state Saturday morning. The northern part of the state will see most of the rain, with some of the storms being severe.
More temperatures in the 90s are expected Sunday.
Ryan added that storms could occur Sunday as well.
