Heavy rain tonight with storm chances lasting through the weekend – Chris

The forecast remains active across Minnesota as a slow-moving storm system brings widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region. A Forecast First Alert remains in effect for tonight and Friday due to the potential for heavy rain and localized flooding.

Rain and embedded thunderstorms are already moving through parts of the state and will continue into the overnight hours. Some areas could pick up one to two inches of rainfall by morning, which may impact low-lying and poor-drainage areas. The overnight low dips into the mid-50s.

Rain continues into Friday, with periods of showers and scattered thunderstorms expected throughout the day. It won’t be a total washout, but most outdoor plans will have to contend with wet conditions and highs only in the mid-60s.

As we head into the weekend, the pattern stays unsettled. Saturday features mostly cloudy skies and a chance of a spotty shower or storm, but it won’t be quite as soggy as Friday. Highs warm slightly into the low 70s.

Sunday brings more sunshine early in the day, but a few storms could roll in late. Storm chances increase into next week with temperatures climbing into the 80s. Monday and Tuesday both bring the chance of storms, some of which could produce heavier rain again.

While every day won’t be a washout, it’s smart to keep the umbrella close and plan ahead for changing skies if you have outdoor events this weekend.
