Weekend construction: Portions of Highway 62 and I-35W closing; I-94 to be reduced to 1 lane

Updated: November 15, 2019 06:23 PM

While most construction projects are set to wrap up in the next couple of weeks, drivers in the metro are still facing detours and weekend road closures.

Highway 62 westbound is shutting down between Highway 169 and Interstate 494 in Eden Prairie starting at 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be detoured to I-494.

The work is related to the larger Southwest Light Rail Transit Project, which will serve communities in Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Eden Prairie. Service begins in 2023 as an extension of the METRO Green Line.

Expect big delays into downtown Minneapolis on Saturday. I-94 eastbound will be reduced to one lane between I-394 and I-35W from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. It could be worth it to head over to Highway 100, Highway 62 or I-35W instead.

On Sunday night, southbound I-35W will close between I-94 and Highway 62. The shutdown will take place overnight starting at 10 p.m. until Monday morning at 5 a.m. The lane closures on I-94 and road closure along I-35W are related to the larger Downtown to the Crosstown Project.
