Weekend Construction Closes Major Roads around the Metro

October 12, 2018 05:54 AM

The weather has been wet and cool lately, but that’s not stopping road crews from getting some work done this weekend on some roads projects around the metro.

In the northeast metro, Interstate 35E southbound is shutting down along a nearly 10-mile stretch from the Forest Lake Split to County Road 96 for concrete repairs. The work begins at 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be detoured along Interstate 35W or you can try Highway 61.

A short stretch of Highway 62 is closing this weekend too. The westbound lanes will close from Hiawatha to Cedar Avenue. Crews will make repairs to the 28th Avenue Bridge. The closure begins at 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be detoured to Interstate 494.

And a big heads up for folks who travel through Minneapolis: The ramp from Interstate 94 westbound to I-35W southbound is closing Friday. The ramp shuts down at 10 p.m. Friday and will stay closed until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22. The detour takes drivers well out of the way to Interstate 394, Highway 100, and Highway 62. The work is related to the larger I-35W: Downtown to the Crosstown Project.
