Another weekend, another road closure along Interstate 35W.
This is the fourth weekend in a row that I-35W has shut down as part of a major resurfacing project between Roseville and Minneapolis.
This weekend's closure will be a little bit more tolerable as only the southbound side will close and the northbound lanes stay open.
Traffic will be detoured to I-694, I-94, and I-35E. A couple things to pay attention to here: Traffic will not be allowed to continue south on I-35W to Highway 280 to reach I-94. In better news, traffic on I-94 will be able to go north on Highway 280. This has not been the case over the last three weekends. Tonight's closure begins at 9 p.m., with ramps shutting down at 8. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
After this weekend, we'll get a short break from big weekend closures. MnDOT says there will be no new road closures during the Minnesota State Fair or Labor Day Weekend. More closures along I-35W will return during the month of September.
Drivers in the west metro can expect to see more barrels along Highway 7 too. The roadway will be down to one lane in both directions from Hopkins Crossroads to I-494. Work begins at 7 tonight and the lanes will reopen by 5 Monday morning. It's all part of a larger resurfacing project.
