Travel during Labor Day weekend could be slow as construction continues around the state

Construction season is still in full force across Minnesota.

Those traveling north of the metro for Labor Day weekend should plan to encounter traffic delays along Interstate 35 in a couple of spots.

There's single lane construction, a traffic shift, and ramps closures near the Forest Lake split. The northbound ramps at Highway 97 in Columbus, are closed for construction. Drivers can use Broadway Avenue instead.

Every year, drivers can count on road work along I-35 between the Twin Cities and Duluth. The one to watch for this weekend is a bridge painting project in Hinckley. The road is down to one lane in both directions.

Single-lane construction continues along Interstate 94 between Alexandria and Garfield. Although drivers might not find a lot of traffic delays, lanes are narrowed in the work zone while traffic shares the westbound lanes.

In southern Minnesota, there are multiple work zones set up along Interstate 90. Near Albert Lea, the road is down to one lane between Highway 13 and County Rd 46.
