Major roads around the metro closing this week

A major reconstruction project is underway along Highway 55 in the far west metro.

Starting Monday, June 3, the detour between Annandale and Maple Lake will be lifted, just in time for a new detour to go into place between County Road 8 in Maple Lake and Highway 25 in Buffalo.

MnDOT says it could take all day to make the switch. The new detour takes motorists north of Highway 55 to County Road 37.

Meanwhile, drivers will encounter more overnight road closures along I-94 near downtown Minneapolis this week.

The eastbound lanes will shut down between I-394 and I-35W Wednesday June 5 and Thursday June 6 starting at 10 p.m. both nights until 5 a.m. the following mornings. The westbound lanes will close along that same stretch overnight on Friday June 7. The work is related to the larger I-35W Downtown to the Crosstown project.

In the east metro, a closure along Highway 95 in Cottage Grove has been postponed. The highway was scheduled to shut down for safety improvements starting Monday June 3, but the work has been rescheduled to begin on Monday June 10 instead.

Once the roadway closes, drivers won't have access to the highway between 70th Street and Highway 61. Drivers can take Keats Avenue/County Road 19 instead. The highway will reopen in late August.
