Suspect in wrong-way crash makes first court appearance

Mark Franklin Jr., missed his first court appearance Monday afternoon due to his injuries.

On Tuesday afternoon, he was still visibly injured.


Investigators say Franklin was speeding and believed to be under the influence last week when he drove the wrong direction and crashed into an oncoming minivan.

The crash killed 39-year-old Ubah Hussen and her unborn child. Her husband, identified as Tamam Kharow, was injured in the crash.

In court Tuesday afternoon, Franklin requested a public defender. His bail was set at $1 million. 

Franklin is scheduled to appear in court again on Nov. 22.
