Traffic stopped on Interstate 694 near Edgerton St., in Vadnais Heights, early Friday morning after 38-year-old Aelicia Taylor was hit and killed. The driver fled the scene of the crash.
“It’s possible the driver didn't know they hit a person,” said Lt. Skalsky. “It’s dark, it's at night, it's late so we just need you to come forward let us know what happened, we need to know what happened.”
Investigators are still piecing the facts together.
Lt. Skalsky said around 2:30 a.m. Taylor crashed her vehicle into a guardrail on the right side of the eastbound lanes. Investigators don't know why she crashed.
“For some unknown reason after the crash, the driver of the vehicle got out of the vehicle and entered the lanes of traffic,” said Lt. Skalsky.
He told 5 Eyewitness News that Taylor walked across three or four lanes of eastbound traffic.
State Patrol doesn't know how long she was in the roadway before she was hit.
Debris on the scene indicates the driver was in a red Audi, made between 2013 and 2016, according to Lt. Skalsky.
Investigators also have dash cam video from a truck that pulled over. It does not show the impact, said Lt Skalsky.
“But it does show the Audi on it that was described by the witnesses,” he said.
They are not releasing the video at this time.
At least three witnesses talked to police on the scene, according to Lt. Skalsky. State Patrol is working to get the license plate number and find out who the driver is.
Anyone with information is asked to call the state patrol at 651-582-1509.
