State Patrol: 341 vehicle crashes in under 11 hours statewide Saturday

Updated: January 18, 2020 06:53 PM

The Minnesota State Patrol said there were over 300 crashes Saturday, as of 4:30 p.m.

Lt. Gordon Shank, public information officer for the State Patrol, tweeted that there were 341 crashes — 35 with injury — 302 spinouts and 15 jackknifed semis from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Snow had stopped falling by Saturday morning in much of the state, but high winds created blizzard conditions, minimizing visibility on the roads.

Ice made the roads even worse. KSTP's Crystal Bui was in Waconia on Saturday, where cars were having trouble handling slick conditions and battling tough winds.

Over a nearly 36-hour span from 5 a.m. Friday to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the State Patrol has reported 559 crashes and 61 injury crashes, 532 vehicle spinouts and 21 jackknifed semis.
