Snowfall Tuesday morning meant metro area drivers' travel times were much longer.
Early-morning slowdowns were reported along Interstate 694 in Little Canada, Interstate 35W in Blaine, and Interstate 394 in Minnetonka.
KSTP Reporter Ashley Zilka reported snow had decreased visibility and was making driving more difficult.
Although Minnesota Department of Transportation sent plows out Tuesday, rapid snowfall made it difficult to keep up with clearing the roads.
Metro Transit reported delays Tuesday morning as well.
Final winter weather update of the morning: about a third of buses are running behind by 9 minutes on average. Routes 61 & 71 on snow detour. No light rail delays. Thanks for riding with us! https://t.co/Qy2y6r4fjl— Metro Transit (@MetroTransitMN) February 12, 2019
Drivers are advised to travel metro area highways and side streets with caution and to plan for extra driving time Tuesday.
Although MPS and SPPS officials reported schools would be open Tuesday, officials in both districts said there is the chance of bus delays.
We will be OPEN Tues. Feb. 12. We continue to monitor the weather and believe road conditions are stable enough to transport students safely. There will be some delays, possibly of an hour +. However, we believe its in students’ best interest to continue learning even if delayed. pic.twitter.com/z0uZM9XCpn— Minneapolis Public Schools (@MPS_News) February 12, 2019
