A semi truck tipped over in a busy stretch of Interstate 35W Thursday morning, prompting the Minnesota Department of Transportation to close a stretch of the highway briefly.

KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith said the incident happened on southbound I-35W near Interstate 94 and downtown Minneapolis.

MnDOT officials were initially unsure whether they would need to close the highway, but at 11:50 a.m. Thursday, the highway was closed at I-94.

Crews reopened the area affected just before 1 p.m.

The incident happened in an area under construction that is part of the Downtown to Crosstown project.
