Police ID driver, pedestrian hit in Columbia Heights crash

The Anoka County Sheriff's Department has identified those involved in a crash Saturday night in Columbia Heights in which a pedestrian was hit.


According to a release, 48-year-old Erik Ray Johnstone of Lino Lakes is listed in critical condition at North Memorial Medical Center after he was hit by a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Sandra Mary Jost of Chaska in the intersection of 40th Avenue Northeast and University Avenue.

The sheriff's department had previously said it responded to the call at around 6:52 p.m., and the man identified as Johnstone had reportedly been standing in the center median of University Avenue and stepped into traffic.

The Columbia Heights Police Department, EMS and a rescue team were also dispatched to the area. The sheriff's office said the incident did not appear to be a hit-and-run, and there were no reports that the driver was not cooperating with investigators.

The matter remains under investigation.
