A section of Interstate 94 in Minneapolis will be closed nightly starting Thursday to conduct repairs on two bridges, according to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Westbound I-94 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. every night, from Thursday through Nov. 9, between the Riverside Avenue and 25th Avenue exits as crews repair the 22nd Avenue and 25th Avenue bridges, which sustained severe damage after a truck hit them in August, the release stated.

There will also be two weekend closures of both directions of I-94 between Interstate 35W and Highway 280 while a temporary pedestrian bridge is installed at 22nd Avenue. Those will take effect at 10 p.m. on Oct. 26 through 4 p.m. Oct. 27 and 10 p.m. Nov. 8 through 5 a.m. Nov. 11.

For the nightly westbound I-94 closures, drivers will be instructed to take the ramp up Riverside Avenue and back down at 25th Avenue. Detours for the full weekend closures will detour drivers onto I-35W, Highway 36 and I-35E.

Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists will not be able to use 25th Avenue or Riverside Avenue at the interstate while construction is happening, according to the release. Riverside and 25th will be closed between Butler Place and Ninth Street.

The closures will allow MnDOT to fully open the 25th Avenue bridge, which has had limited access, and install a temporary pedestrian bridge at 22nd Avenue.
