Pedestrian killed in south Minneapolis crash identified

A pedestrian that was hit and killed in a crash in south Minneapolis Wednesday morning has been identified.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 54-year-old Kurt Dwane Howe.

The incident happened in the area of Hiawatha Avenue and East 26th Street at about 3:10 a.m.

According to police, a man in his 20s was driving the vehicle that hit Howe as he was crossing Hiawatha Avenue.

Howe was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

Police said the driver stopped and tried to help Howe. The driver is cooperating with the investigation and there is no indication the driver was impaired at the time of the crash, police added.
