Two vehicles carrying nine people were involved in a crash in northwest Minnesota Friday night.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at 9:18 p.m., a Chevy Venture van was driving northbound on Highway 59 rounding a curve, and a Pontiac Grand Am was going southbound rounding the same curve.  


The van then crossed the center line and attempted to cut back to the northbound lane. The car saw the van and attempted to move into the van's lane. The vehicles then collided head-on in the middle of the road. 

Alexandria Marie Brown, 28, from Ponsford, was driving the Chevy Venture Van with three adults and four small children (ages 1, 1, 2 and 3) during the incident. The other adults were identified as Talia Destiny Brown, 20, from Ponsford; and Kenneth Lee Peake-Rogers, 24, from White Earth. Three of the children have been identified: Makayla Wastela Leiland, 3, of Ponsford; Mataya Star Leiland, 2, of Ponsford; and Ziah Leigh Peak-Rogers, 1, of White Earth.

All adults suffered injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening. The children who have been identified also suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The 3-year-old was not wearing a seat belt, according to the State Patrol.

The 1-year-old girl who was not identified was taken to a hospital in Fargo with life-threatening injuries.

Adam Daniel Lian, 33, of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, was the driver of the Pontiac and had a passenger riding with during the crash, identified as James Michael Berg, 33, of Thief River Falls. Both individuals also have injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation.
