Drivers will need to find an alternate route to access Black Dog Road from northbound Interstate 35W in Burnsville on Sunday due to high water from the Minnesota River.

According to MnDOT, the closure will begin at 8 p.m. However, they may close earlier if water rises earlier than originally predicted.

MnDOT crews had already planned to close the northbound Interstate 35W ramps at Black Dog Road in early April to complete work as part of the Interstate 35W Minnesota River Bridge replacement project that is currently underway. Once the ramps close on Sunday, the ramps will remain closed through early fall.

MnDOT says when a road is closed, it is illegal to travel in that area. Drivers can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from areas mentioned, other expenses and penalties will apply.
