The Minnesota State Patrol confirmed Tuesday three vehicles were involved in a crash that temporarily closed a section of Highway 5 in Waconia Monday.

The crash occurred along the highway near Hartmann Drive.

According to the state patrol, the driver of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway when it struck a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado head on.

Then, the driver of a 2014 Ram 1500 rear-ended the 2015 Silverado, the state patrol reported.

The driver of the 2015 Silverado, identified as 57-year-old Lisa Ann Welch, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the 2002 Silverado, identified as 45-year-old Michael Jon Clarkson, died as a result of the crash, according to the state patrol.

The 28-year-old driver and 25-year-old passenger of the Ram 1500 suffered injuries that were not life threatening, the state patrol reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
